Planned Parenthood is a company whose mission is,
"To provide, promote, and protect access to reproductive health care and sexuality education so that all people can make voluntary choices about their reproductive sexual health."
This company is supposed to have been created in Vermont at Priscilla Welsh's kitchen table in 1965. That year, many states had still not passed the law that allowed married couples to use birth control, and abortion was illegal across the nation. It is still based in New England. They started to really thrive in 1973 when the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision made abortion legal.
They have provided help related to reproduction and sex education since. They provide affordable access to birth control and regular breast cancer screenings along with many other related services.

They are still in operation now, but the company is at risk. In their 2012 News Source, a publication of events and news written by the company, there is talk of the government shutting the group down by taking away their funding. The presidential election is even more of a threat, as abortion is a big topic of controversy with many disagreements from each side. Even with all of these potential attacks, many people continue to show support for this organization. In response to this, the company says,
"We want to thank each and every supporter who spoke out, contributed, and stood with Planned Parenthood - without you, our work would not be possible."
