First Wave Feminism Compared to Now:Ever since women realized that they were being treated unfairly they have been fighting for the rights that they deserve. During the first wave feminists were just getting started and they didn't have many followers. Women were under the impression that they were doing the right thing and that men were supposed to be treated better than women were. Feminists worked hard to show the women that they deserved better and that what was happening around them could not continue!
Today women still are not being treated the way they deserve to be treated. However, there are many more woman activists than there were during the first wave. Thanks to the efforts of the protestors and feminists from the first wave, women have many more rights today than they imagined. Women have come so far since the first wave of feminism. After they recieved the right to vote they continued to progress and gain more and more rights. Now that women are being treated with more respect and are given almost equal rights to men, there are less reports of women rebelling and fighting against men and to get rights. The 19th Amendment and What it has done for Women Today:The 19th amendment was the start of power that women recieved. From the time it was put into act to now, things have been looking up for women and they have made it farther than they could have imagined.
The 19th amendment allowed women the right to vote and truly show their citizenship. It was just the victory that women needed to keep them headed in the right direction towards equality and freedom from the problems they were faced with. Since women are able to vote today it has become much easier for them to speak their voices and prove that they should be completely equal. |
Birth Control Compared to Now:
The idea of birth control has been debated ever since it was first brought up by Margaret Sanger. It is a topic that is still being thrown around courts today. Whether it should or should not be provided by the government, or whether it is an OK thing for women to do.
When the idea of birth control was first brought up to women it was a completely rebellious and it scared man women to think that there were women who were going against society like that. Today birth control is a more common occurance. Women are allowed access to birth control much more easily than they were when it was first introduced. With organizations like Planned Parenthood continuing to fight for the the right of using contraceptives, women have more resources to go to with questions about it as well. Even though there is still some debate about the whole thing and whether or not it should be provided. When it comes to birth control today women are more accepting and it is a more supported idea. Protesting compared to Now:Protesting started as a way for feminists to get the attention of the government and those people who were in charge. They used to do things like make picket signs, sing songs, and march so that they would be noticed. They wanted to be noticed by the public and recognized as a significant force.
Today things are much different. Now that women are seen as people it is easier for them to get the attention they need and deserve when it comes to their rights. Instead of having to march or make signs women are able to go to the ones in charge and speak to them directly, or they can take it to court. It is more civilized and organized this way. The feminist way of life now no longer includes much protest at all. It's more about self-empowerment and building up leadership skills so that women can take on roles of authority that they would have never been able to do 100 years ago. |
